Global education is undergoing a radical disruption placing extraordinary demands on leaders. These major shifts are occurring across the sector and challenging the status quo of leadership. As we duck and weave the hazards -How do we stay proactive, pre-empting what’s coming down the track next?

This discussion explores the leadership approaches employed by two senior leaders that have and continue to navigate their teams in these complex times.

SPEAKERS/FACILITATOR(S):

Rebecca Hall, Senior Industry Specialist, International Education, Austrade

Rebecca Hall leads Austrade’s engagement in promoting Australia’s International Education sector. She forms part of the Trade and Investment Senior Leadership team, engaging across Austrade’s global network. Rebecca oversees Austrade’s AIE2025 strategy and Austrade services to support international education sector sustainability.Prior to joining the Australian Government, Rebecca led international education strategy for the Queensland and Victorian Governments. Rebecca’s career in international education was sparked by her experience as a JET Programme participant in 1996. Since returning to Australia in 1998 she has contributed her skills and passion for international education through roles in economic development, international relations, strategy development and industry engagement.

Dr. Douglas Proctor, Director of International Affairs, University College Dublin

Douglas Proctor is Director of International Affairs at University College Dublin, Ireland where he has management responsibility for the international office and provides leadership to the broader university community on internationalisation, international engagement and international partnerships. Douglas completed a PhD at the Melbourne Centre for the Study of Higher Education at the University of Melbourne in late 2016. He has authored papers and reports in relation to his doctoral research, as well as on the global landscape of international education research. With Laura Rumbley from Boston College's Center for International Higher Education, he is co-editor of a new Routledge book entitled “The Future Agenda for Internationalization in Higher Education” which offers new perspectives on the internationalisation of higher education from a younger generation of scholars and practitioners. Douglas is Chair of the EAIE Publications.

With more than 20 years of experience, Dawn is passionate about the transformative possibilities that global learning offers. Throughout her career, she has made a contribution to the intellectual discourse on the internationalisation of higher education through research, publications and presentations at major conferences and forums. Dawn has worked in the international offices of RMIT University, La Trobe University, and Macquarie University and for not for profit organisations - The Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University (IFSA-Butler) and the International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP).
