Webinar #4 Prioritize Time and Decisions – Steps Toward More Control and Better Outcomes
Learning to prioritize time and decisions means developing the ability to identify and focus on what is most important, while minimizing distractions and unnecessary tasks. It involves effectively managing your time, resources, and energy to make better decisions and achieve your goals more efficiently.
The Challenge:
In today’s fast-paced world, we are bombarded with tasks, emails, meetings, and notifications. The sheer volume of information and demands can make it hard to know where to start or which tasks should take priority. Constant interruptions, whether from colleagues, technology (e.g., social media, notifications), or unexpected events, can make it difficult to focus on the task at hand. If you’re unclear about your long-term objectives or have vague goals, it’s hard to prioritize the right tasks and without a clear vision of what matters most, it becomes difficult to distinguish between high- and low-priority activities.
The Impact (of Not Addressing It):
Without prioritization, you’re constantly reacting to whatever’s most urgent, rather than planning ahead. This leads to mental fatigue, stress, and eventually burnout—especially in high-demand roles. Important but non-urgent goals (like personal development, innovation, strategic planning) often get pushed aside in favor of “busy work.” Time, money, and human resources are not allocated effectively when there’s no clear sense of priority. Constant busyness without progress can make you feel ineffective and stuck.
Learning Outcomes:
- Reflect on current behaviors to identify patterns that hinder productivity
- Learn the most common pitfalls and how to avoid them
- Develop a personal decision-making framework to stick to the important tasks
- Learn how to communicate priorities clearly and assertively in order to protect time and focus without damaging relationships.
